Last Memory (Story)

There was once a cheerful girl named Lily. She has a best friend named Melody and they've been together since they were only seven. No matter where they go, they can't be separated. It was a remarkable friendship.

One day, as they were strolling around a park in their school, they saw a pale-skinned girl searching around for something. They walked to her and Lily asked,
"Hi There! What are you looking for? Are you a new student? I think I've never seen you here before." The girl just gave them a sweet smile and said,
"Hello! Yes I am new here. I'm searching for my class but I think I'm lost. Can you please help me?" Lily and Melody looked at each other and nodded.
"Of course. Which class are you in?" Melody asked.
"I'm in class 1-3." The two girls were very surprised and giggled.
"Really? We're in the same class, then. I'm Lily. This is Melody, my best friend." Melody waved.
"My name is Violet. Nice to meet you."
As soon as they introduced themselves, the school bell rang. "We have to hurry! I don't want to stand outside the class again!" Lily panicked. They laughed and quickly walked to class together.

After school, Lily and Melody walked Violet around the school compound. But Melody felt awkward being with Violet. As if she was invisible between them. But she just kept quiet because she is afraid that she might hurt Violet's feelings.

Lily and Violet became closer day by day. Melody noticed how Lily had changed so much. She always raised her voice whenever she talks to Melody. Violet also had been unfriendly towards Melody. They always left Melody behind. Melody was very sad that thought and she'd been crying about it every night.

One day, during recess, Lily was in bad mood. "What's wrong?" Violet asked. "It's my gold bracelet. It'd been missing since yesterday. My mom gave it to me last year on my birthday and she said it was very expensive. Yesterday I left it in my bad because it's time for P.E."
Lily replied as she banged her fist on the table. "Have you checked your bag?" Lily shrugged.
"Of course I did. I've checked everywhere but still couldn't find it."
          "Well maybe someone stole it."
"Who would? I'm kind to everyone." Lily said. "But I saw Melody walked to your desk yesterday. I don't know what's her motive of doing that but I swear I saw her."
Lily widened her eyes. She stood up and searched through the canteen for Melody. She saw her sitting on one of the stairs. Lily ran towards her direction and yelled, "Where's my bracelet?!" Melody looked so shocked and said, "What bracelet?"
Lily answered sternly, "Hey, don't play dumb here okay? I know you stole it!"
"I didn't take anything from you! I swear!" Melody looked like she's going to cry. "Then tell me what were you doing at my desk yesterday?"
           "What?"
Everyone was watching them. Violet pulled Lily's hand. "Let's go. Everyone's watching." Lily followed Violet to class and left Melody, in tears. "I'd never thought it will be this way." Melody cried and cried wishing Lily would change back to her old self.

Lily noticed Melody didn't come to school for a week after the incident. "I knew it. She stole my bracelet and too scared to show up." Violet smirked. She is the one behind this. She stole her bracelet and made up the whole story. She planned it all along.
"I never thought your own best friend betrayed you." She made a sad face.
"She's not my best friend anymore. You are. Thanks Violet, for telling me that you saw Melody the other day."
           Violet smiled.

The very next day, Lily went for a sleepover at Violet's house. As they were having a pillow fight, something shiny fell from Violet's desk. Lily observed that thing and looked at Violet. "Violet, what's this?" She showed it to Violet.
"NO!" Violet screamed and snatched that thing from Lily. "Why is my bracelet with you? You said it was stolen by Melody!" She looked angrily at Violet. "I can explain!" Lily didn't care anymore. She ran out of the house and called Melody. But she didn't answer. Then, she called Melody's mother.
"H-Hello?" Said Lily as soon as she heard voice on the side.
           "Yes, may I help you?"
"Can I talk to Melody for a second?" Lily hoped for 'yes' but instead, the call was cut off.

"Something smells fishy." Lily went back inside to take her things and went back home without saying a single word to Violet.

Next day, there's a breaking news at their school. Everyone was shocked to hear that Melody was committed in an accident especially Lily. She cried so badly and regretted for what she had done to Melody. Just then, a simple thought popped into her mind. She needs to know where Melody is. So, as an incredible athlete, she ran to her lass teacher as quick as lightning to ask about Melody. After she got the information, in the blink of the teacher's wide eyes, Lily disapeared.

She went to think of a way to ask for forgiveness form her best friend but failed. Her body was over there sitting on the bench where she used to sit with Melody for the past few weeks before Violet came but her mind flew out of Earth to Jupiter. She thought maybe Melody wouldn't consider her as friend right now.

After school ended, she went to the hospital. Well, according to what her teacher said, Melody was in a very poor condition. The nurse has to stay beside her all the time in case of anything happen.

When Lily stepped into Melody's room, she felt like there was butterflies in her stomach. She was too scared and shameful to face Melody. She waited and waited for Melody to open her eyes. After a few hours, Melody opened her eyes weakly and saw Lily. She called Lily with a weak voice and asked, "Why are you here Lily? Aren't you supposed to be with Violet right now? Where's your new best friend that accused me?" Lily was so shocked to hear that came from Melody's lips. Her heart broke to pieces and tears begun to flow down her eyes. "Melody, I'm so sorry for what I've done to you. I should have-" Melody cut off her words. "You don't have to say sorry. No one in this world is perfect. Including you and I. We create problems and we say sorry. So, as your friend, I'll forgive you and Violet from the bottom of my heart. Look, I don't have much time left." She took a deep breath and sighed.

Lily cried even more badly and said, "Melody, please don't say that. Everything will be fine. We'll go back to school as usual and I'll treat you and ice cream like we used to. Wouldn't that be fun?" Melody replied. "Indeed. Lily, I would like to ask a favor. Please take good care of my parents when I'm gone. I'm begging you. I can't take the pain for any sooner." After Melody said those heart-touching lines, she took her last deep breath and slowly closed her eyes. Her face represents her peaceful leaving. She was smiling and tears falls down her cheeks. Lily smiled as tears ran down her cheeks heavily and said,

"Thanks Melody. You are so one in a million. I love you and I hope you'll be happy there."
